you, me, & lung cancer

It sits between his lips
Nagging him,
"Don't quit!"
But it really seems to fit
His might and all his wit.
One rests behind his ear,
Another in her hand,
Her fingers slim and grim
Are painted oh so dim
On this night as bright as day
When I met you;

crossroads

I watched the cars drive past as quickly as my future; gone in an instant, driving farther and farther away from my reach. It was scary, really, to see my life and future flashing before my eyes, at a fork in the road, letting the three of us be the judge of which one was the best. Who were we to know anyway? We were just three little measly humans, stuck at a crossroads in our lives, trying to predict the future. I guess now, only time will tell.

vanity and clarity

I’m finally over you and your stupid blond hair
And your I-don’t-care
Attitude.
I’m finally over your funny sense of humour
And how easily you put me down.
You complain and complain —
Your life’s like a Taylor Swift song —
But it’s all in vain.

You’re vain.

two published poets

YOU GUYS, LOOK WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY!!!! IT'S THE CHAPBOOK I ORDERED A WHILE BACK!!! ALSO I AM OFFICIALLY A PUBLISHED POET!!! (yes, caps & exclamation marks are needed!)

Here's where you can find my published poem: The Wandering

I'm still freaking out about the fact that my poem, something that wrote was good enough to be on The Wandering and that people will be reading it!!!! It's such a rush and I just... wow, I'm so proud and amazed. I'm still grinning madly from ear to ear and mouthing ohmygod every five seconds.

wait for fate

We sit and wait
For years, to wake;
For fate to state
That we should take
A stand against this fate
That makes tears roll down
All the way damn down
Our soggy little pink cheeks.

revenge

A single tear fell,
You could tell.
I know

You could tell.
But that didn't keep you from breaking my heart,

Smashing it on the ground,

Shattering it into a million little pieces,

Setting fire to it,

And then dancing around the flames.

You even put the ashes on the mantlepiece

To remind yourself of the day you broke me;

The day you ripped me apart.

That wasn't very smart.

book withdrawal

Do you ever get that feeling? When you finish a book and you just feel so helpless, like you've lost something, like you've lost a friend? You keep going back, thinking of something that happened or that a character said and then realizing you already finished the book. It's like having to say goodbye to a friend without actually getting to say it. They just kind of leave you, stranded, lost without them.

a poem i wrote last year (aka 2009)

At times that hurt,
I need you near,
To steer me through my sea of tears,
To keep my heart from falling apart.
I may seem tough,

I may play rough,

But all I need is you.

Just you,

To survive this world.

artificial chemicals

Short and sweet:
That's not meat.
Long and sour:
That's not flour.
Fake food, fake groove.

We'll all die.

too late

Crime.
Tough, hard crime.
Push and scream,
One last breath,
Single gasp for air.
They can’t hear you,
Yell, cry, hit.
Still can’t hear you,
Yell, cry, hit,
Just fight back.

Crime.
Tough, hard crime.
Tear-streaked face,
Blood stained clothes.
One last hit,
Try once more.
They can’t hear you,
Yell, cry, hit.
Still can’t hear you,
Yell, cry, hit.
One last scream,
Yell, cry, hit.
One last shot,
Yell, cry, hit.
Gun in hand,
Yell, cry, hit.
POW!

They can hear you,
Yell,
Cry,
Hit.

It’s too late.

the l game

I don’t like this twisted game you’re playing.
I’m trapped in a movie and you’re the antagonist,
But god you’re also the love interest.
Don’t tell me it’s over because I’m not done yet.
Am I the only one still here,
Watching as the credits roll
Or did you just press pause while I was still on play?
I never knew this was a race to who could stop loving first.
How could you move on when I was just falling back?
I didn’t know this was a game ‘till I was the last one playing:
You outran me, I out-loved you.
Please come back, please play fair.
I call a rematch.
